About AussieYardWild

AussieYardWild is an independent guide for people who encounter wildlife around Australian homes. It is for renters and homeowners looking for a clear starting point, whether they have heard a noise in the roof, seen an animal in the yard or found a spider indoors.

Why this site exists

Finding the right information can mean visiting several websites. A page about an animal may explain what it looks like, while advice on local requirements or who to contact may be elsewhere. Rules can differ between states and territories, and local circumstances matter too.

Our guides bring those starting points together: what you may have noticed, what else could explain it, where to check the relevant information and what you can consider doing next. A photograph or description alone is not always enough to identify an animal. Where there is doubt, the guide should help you find a safer way forward rather than ask you to get closer.

What we cover

The site’s planned topics include possums, snakes, spiders, birds, rats and mice, and frogs and toads around homes and gardens. Not every topic or location has a guide yet. The available guides are linked from the home page.

Guides list the sources consulted and when they were read. Our editorial policy explains how we use sources and handle corrections. Follow the current advice on the linked official page if information has changed.

When to seek help

We are not a removal company, government agency, veterinary practice or emergency service. We cannot inspect your property or identify an animal for you. If someone is seriously unwell or has been bitten, call 000. For injured or orphaned wildlife, contact a local wildlife rescue group.

How the site is funded

The site may show display advertising. Advertisers do not decide what our guides say. There are no paid listings or referral links to wildlife services on the site.
